The last time U.S. Army Air Corps Captain Woodie Benson was on board a B-17, he and his crew made a hair-raising, forced landing on the island of New Guinea in May 1944.
In this video, the 98-year-old WWII veteran and Lima Estates resident takes to the sky once more in the iconic wartime plane, courtesy of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).
We were honored to join Capt. Benson on this incredible day. It’s our hope this video serves not only as a tribute to his service, but to all our veterans.
