At 100 years old, Jinny Coxe is working out three times a week and spending regular time outdoors. She’s also a familiar face at Acts Manor House, which she has called home for the past 19 years.
Recently, Jinny was celebrated as the Manor House Fitness Champion — an honor that recognizes not only her impressive commitment to staying active, but also the everyday choices that help her thrive.
In a recent interview with WMDT-TV, Jinny shared her approach to healthy aging: staying active, keeping her mind engaged and making wellness part of her regular routine. She participates in exercise classes and uses the fitness center, but she also enjoys puzzles, playing cards, and time outdoors. When she misses a few exercise classes, she notices the difference.
Jinny’s story is a wonderful example of how wellness can become part of everyday life in an Acts community.
Creating an Environment for Healthy Aging
Living a long and healthy life is about more than any single workout or healthy meal. It’s about having an environment that makes healthy choices easier — and more enjoyable — to incorporate into everyday life.
Across Acts communities, residents have opportunities to stay active in ways that fit their interests and abilities. Fitness centers and exercise classes make it convenient to build movement into the day, while walking paths, gardens, and inviting outdoor spaces encourage residents to get outside and enjoy being active.
Healthy eating is another important part of the lifestyle. Nutritious, thoughtfully prepared meals make it easier for residents to enjoy delicious food while supporting their overall wellness.
And perhaps just as important is the opportunity for connection.
At Acts, there is always someone nearby to join for a walk, sit down for a meal, play cards, participate in an activity or simply share a conversation. Those everyday moments of companionship can make staying engaged and active feel less like a goal and more like a natural part of life.
Wellness Is About the Whole Life
Jinny’s routine illustrates that healthy aging isn't about following a complicated formula. It can be as simple as finding activities you enjoy, moving your body regularly, eating well, staying curious and maintaining meaningful connections with others.
At Acts Manor House, Jinny has had the opportunity to do all of those things — while building friendships and enjoying an active lifestyle for nearly two decades.
And at 100, she’s still showing us that age is just one part of the story.
