Eight war veterans living at Tryon Estates in Columbus, North Carolina, traveled to Washington, D.C. to visit our nation's war memorials in April. Blue Ridge Honor Flight recognizes local veterans who served with a trip-of-a-lifetime to our nation's capitol to experience their memorials.

"This grassroots organization started in Hendersonville, N.C., in 2005. There are now 52 honor flights all over the country," said Caroline Eller, the fitness director at Tryon Estates who accompanied our veterans on this special trip. "I’m grateful that I was able to experience this with our eight Tryon Estates veterans."

Army veterans Bob Tames, Jack Jeter, Jim Sutherin, Leo Kosiba, and Air Force veterans Jim Robards, and Al Hart served in the Vietnam War. Veterans Larry Poe (Army) and Charlie McVicker (Marines) fought in Korea. Thank you for your sacrifice, courage and service!
