A century of service, learning, and curiosity was celebrated at Azalea Trace as resident Charley Pritchett marked his 100th birthday.

A World War II Navy veteran, former professor, and dedicated lifelong learner, Charley has spent his retirement at Azalea Trace continuing his education through the University of West Florida's Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver Program. The school is within walking distance to campus, and over the years Charley audited more than 50 college courses, becoming the most active participant in the program's history.

To recognize this extraordinary achievement, representatives from UWF surprised Charley during his birthday celebration with a Certificate of Continuing Education, honoring his longstanding commitment to learning.

Beyond attending classes, Charley spent time at the university sharing his firsthand experiences as a World War II veteran with students and faculty, helping bring history to life for future generations.

He is proof of how remaining engaged, curious, and connected throughout life provides a physical and cognitive benefits — principles that are embraced every day at Azalea Trace and all our Acts communities.

The celebration attracted media attention across the Pensacola region, highlighting Charley's inspiring journey and the impact of lifelong learning.
