I love tucking in our beds for their winter sleep.”
Allen, Buckingham's Choice
Allen hadn’t played ball in years when he moved into Fairhaven twenty years ago. But after he moved in, the lure of nearby ballfields and a new generation of ballplayers brought him back to the diamond. For nineteen seasons now, he’s helped mentor countless young umpires while rediscovering the thrill of the game.
John, Gwynedd Estates
John describes himself as Gwynedd Estate’s resident wacko. But there’s more to him than a great sense of humor and a taste for the zany. A longtime physician, he briefly came out of retirement to treat patients during COVID. Since then, he’s been making new friends with his neighbors, playing golf, and exploring his Scottish heritage.
Gary, Normandy Farms Estates
Gary has a song or two up his sleeve. A dedicated classic rock fan, he was flattered when a friend approached him about starting a band. Retirement has made it a little easier to book gigs, and he plays out regularly at a local pub and on campus at Normandy Farms, where he lives with his wife, Ginny. “It is really so easy to be happy here.”
Miles, Westminster Village
Miles and his wife Linda, are both artists. She is a painter. He builds model ships. Since moving to Azalea Trace, they’ve found the space to explore their interests, take up new activities, and make friends. “This place is perfect for us. We’re able to create our art at the same time.”
Kathryn, Bayleigh Chase
Kathryn was a poet, memoirist, and English professor before she retired with her husband, Clinton, to Bayleigh Chase. Since moving in, she’s been helping her new friends and neighbors turn their memories into literature with regular workshops and literary activities. “It’s amazing what you can discover when you give yourself over to trying something new.”
Ken, Lanier Village Estates
Ken loves being on a bicycle. And the extensive trails and scenic byways in and around Lake Lanier Village give him a chance to get in gear whenever he likes. Since moving in with his wife, Samantha in 2020, he’s found a community as friendly and active as he is. “This place is wonderful. We have friends here. Why wait?”
Mary, Fairhaven
Mary and her husband, George, can often be found in the woodshop at Fairhaven. They’ve been regulars since they moved in back in 2021. Both enjoy making beautiful things and finding inspiration on long walks through the trails of the park-like grounds surrounding their home. “You could spend days exploring this campus and always find something new.”
Bud and Ron, Spring House Estates
Bud and Ron don’t run the woodshed at Springhouse Estates, but they might be its unofficial ambassadors. Between Burt’s delicately constructed dollhouses and Ron’s expertly carved ducks, they are always working on something impressive and willing to share their knowledge and friendship with their fellow residents.
Barbara, Fairhaven

Steve and EJ, Edgewater at Boca Pointe

Betty, Lanier Village Estates
Betty brings a lot of cheer to her early morning yoga practice at Lanier Village Estates. Maybe because she takes classes with friends she’s known since grade school, or maybe it’s all the new friends she’s met since moving to her new home. “Everyone is just wonderful here.”
Alan, Tryon Estates
Alan has felt so at home since moving with his wife to Tryon Estates, he’s trying to convince the birds to move in too. A former teacher and AT thru-hiker, Alan started making his beautiful birdhouses during COVID. Now he has a whole flock of fans, some with feathers, around the community. “I love it here because it’s so friendly!”
George, The Evergreens
George knows all about the sweet life. Since retiring to The Evergreens, honey has been a big part of his daily routine. As resident beekeeper, he tends to the colony, grows flowers, and puts together spectacular arrangements for his friends and neighbors. “The Evergreens has brought together such a diverse cross-section of residents. I really enjoy getting to know all my neighbors.”
Peggy, Matthews Glen
Peggy loves a surprise that brightens someone’s day. That’s why she collects rocks, paints them, and leaves them on her neighbors’ doorsteps at Matthews Glen. Since moving in, she’s found ample opportunity to enjoy herself and make each day special, thanks in part to her wonderful new friends. “It's a very active, vibrant community. There’s always something to enjoy.”
