What are the Best States for Disabled Military Retirees?

Florida, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania are among some of the best U.S. states for disabled veterans to retire.

Florida exempts military retirement pay from taxation and provides a property tax discount for disabled veterans (Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs). The state also has numerous VA hospitals and clinics, making healthcare more accessible. Alabama offers full tax exemption on military retirement pay and provides property tax exemptions for veterans rated 100% disabled (Alabama Department of Revenue). North Carolina recently eliminated the state tax on military retirement pay as of 2022 and has a strong VA medical network including major centers in Durham and Fayetteville (NC Department of Revenue). Pennsylvania does not tax military retirement pay and offers several state-level veteran programs, including housing and employment support (Pennsylvania Military & Veterans Affairs).

With Acts communities in all of these states, disabled veterans can enjoy the peace of mind of top-tier retirement living while taking full advantage of generous benefits and healthcare access.
