Residents at Acts Westminster Village are proving that retirement is an opportunity to serve in new ways.
A recent feature in Gulf Coast Media highlighted the Westminster Village Amateur Radio Club (AB4WV), a group of licensed amateur radio operators who help support emergency communications efforts throughout Baldwin County.
The club's origins trace back to Hurricane Sally in 2020, when widespread power outages revealed how vulnerable traditional communication systems can be during a major disaster. Following the storm, residents and leadership at Westminster Village explored ways to strengthen emergency preparedness and community resilience.

Today, the club works closely with Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency and the Baldwin County Amateur Radio Club, providing communications support during emergency exercises, severe weather events, and situations where conventional communications may be disrupted.
Beyond emergency preparedness, the club embodies many of the values that define life at Acts Westminster Village: lifelong learning, meaningful engagement, and service to others. Members participate in amateur radio events and contests, pursue additional certifications, and mentor new operators through licensing classes offered at the community.
