About Acts Retirement-Life Communities

Redefining What It Means to Thrive as We Age

Acts Leads a New Era of Well-Being, Purpose, and Possibility

Acts was founded on a simple vision: to create a place where older adults could live with dignity, purpose, and peace of mind. That vision led to the opening of our first community, now Fort Washington Estates, in 1972.

Today, Acts is one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit continuing care retirement community organizations. While our foundation remains rooted in stability and exceptional healthcare, we are evolving beyond the traditional Life Care model to a more personalized lifestyle and well-being approach.

Guided by Christian values and a culture of Loving-Kindness, Acts is transforming well-being for older adults through purpose, connection, vitality, and fulfillment. We’re redefining what it means to thrive as we age while providing the confidence and peace of mind residents and families have trusted for more than 50 years.

Acts: 50+ Years of Living Our Mission and Shaping Our Future.

Our Vision

Acts – where Loving-Kindness and Christian ideals are practiced to meet the needs of those we serve.

Our Mission

Acts is committed to providing security and peace of mind to seniors by being a pre-eminent provider of retirement-life services, responsive to individual, social, personal, health and spiritual needs in a Christian atmosphere graced with Loving-Kindness, dignity, sensitivity, honesty and respect, without prejudice or preference.

Living with Purpose

At Acts Retirement-Life Communities, well-being extends beyond physical health. We believe a fulfilling life includes purpose, connection, service, and opportunities to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Our residents enrich their communities every day through volunteer efforts, mentoring relationships, educational programs, creative pursuits, community outreach, spiritual activities, and meaningful social connections. These experiences help residents stay engaged, inspire others, and continue living lives filled with purpose.

While a Christian-based organization rooted in the Culture of Loving-Kindness, Acts encourages every resident to pursue what brings meaning to their life while contributing to a vibrant and caring community.

Culture of Loving-Kindness

The Acts Culture of Loving-Kindness is based on the extension of God’s grace, goodness, mercy, and love without prejudice to others. Acts embraces Loving-Kindness, recognizing the inherent value in others through an attitude of respect and acceptance, without favor. Acts is committed to following God’s directives to care for seniors and, in doing so, glorifying Him through intent, purpose and righteous justice.

Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging

In keeping with the teachings of our Christian heritage and the Culture of Loving-Kindness, Acts is committed to the belief that every person is equally created in the image of God—a basic human identity— and that all individuals shall be treated with respect and dignity regardless of their religion, race, national origin, color, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or other unique attributes. This commitment to inclusion and diversity goes to the core of our beliefs.

Acts Retirement-Life Communities and its affiliates are proud to offer a network of 28 vibrant communities across nine states, primarily located along the East Coast. Our communities are carefully selected for their desirable locations, offering a variety of settings from charming coastal towns to bustling metropolitan areas. Many residents choose to take advance of our Acts Travel Program, where a resident of one campus is able to visit any of the other campuses.

Acts offers several types of life care contracts. Our most popular is our Type A or “Extensive,” provide residents with unlimited, lifetime access to independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing care with little or no increase in the monthly fee directly as the result of a need for a higher level of care.

The entrance fee and the monthly fee provide you with the assurance that assisted living and skilled nursing care will be provided for life, with no increase in the monthly fee based solely on if a higher level of care is necessary, no matter how long or how many times you may need that care. They also provide you with a vast array of retirement resort amenities and activities just outside your door.

Many residents are pleased to find that they save money once they move to an Acts community. If you are wondering whether you can afford an Acts community, one of our Life Care Consultants will be happy to do a confidential financial screening over the phone.

Acts Retirement-Life Communities does not directly accept Medicaid. Our communities are primarily private-pay, offering a variety of contract options to suit different financial situations. However, we encourage you to contact the community you’re interested in to discuss potential financial assistance programs or resources that may be available. Many residents are able to dedicate their fee as a prepaid medical expense.

For-profit retirement communities use a portion of their proceeds to pay investors. As a not-for-profit organization, Acts does not have to pay investors and uses their proceeds for capital improvements and increased services to residents.

The monthly fee at an Acts community covers a wide range of services and amenities, including:

  • Home maintenance: All exterior maintenance and landscaping, and all interior maintenance and home repairs, are handed as part of the monthly fee.
  • Access to amenities: Enjoy our fitness centers, swimming pools, libraries, game rooms, and other recreational facilities.
  • Activities and events: Participate in a variety of social events, clubs, and educational programs designed to enrich your life.
  • Dining options: Savor delicious meals prepared by fine culinary teams in elegant dining venues.

  • Transportation services: Take advantage of our convenient transportation options for shopping, errands, and medical appointments.

Specific inclusions may vary by community, so we recommend contacting the community directly for a detailed breakdown of their monthly fee structure.

Yes! Acts communities are pet-friendly. Residents are welcome to bring their cat, dog, bird, or any other non-exotic, well-behaved pet. We wouldn’t think of splitting up families! Contact the Life Care Consultants at your community of interest if you have specific questions about moving with your pet to an Acts community.

Residents who maintain their long-term care insurance qualify for discounts on entrance fees, though some requirements and limitations apply.

Yes, residents may have a guest stay with them in their home for eight consecutive days, or up to 30 days if approved by the community’s Executive Director. There would be no charge to the resident, except for any meals the guest may attend. Many communities also have guest apartments available for rent.

We welcome visitors to our communities at any time! We understand the importance of staying connected with loved ones, and we encourage family and friends to visit as often as they like. Our communities also have ballrooms and spaces that can be reserved for events. However, specific guidelines may apply during certain events or programs, so it’s always a good idea to check with the community in advance.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to when is the best age to enter a CCRC (Continuing Care Retirement Community), as the perfect age depends on your individual circumstances and preferences. However, many people choose to join a CCRC in their late 60s or early 70s, while they are still active and independent and can fully enjoy the community’s amenities and social opportunities. The advantage of joining a CCRC earlier in retirement is that you can secure your future healthcare needs now, pre-paying in today’s dollars, and then enjoy a worry-free lifestyle with a peace of mind of knowing that, should your health needs ever change, you’re already taken care of.
