Jump right into the refreshing pool at Edgewater at Boca Pointe for a fun new fitness class that combines weights and water! Edgewater’s new Aqua Muscle class is a great way to build muscle and strengthen your core in the hottest months of the year.
“It’s getting very popular,” said Michael Fries, the fitness director at Edgewater at Boca Pointe. He’s also a AFPA Certified Senior Fitness Specialist who recently became certified as an Aquatic Fitness Professional.
His new Aqua Muscle class meets twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, alongside his highly popular weightlifting classes, held in the community’s beautifully renovated clubhouse, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Aqua Muscle combines weights, stretching and cardio for a safe, well-rounded workout tailored for active older adults.
“It changes the dynamics when it comes to balance. We do squats in the water, which is similar to my weight training class on land, but in the water, residents can get a lot deeper into their squats without having to worry about falling. It’s a great way to expand your workout,” Fries said.
Along with in-person weight training classes (which also stream virtually to residents’ apartments though the campus TV station), residents at Edgewater are thrilled to resume chair volleyball competitions. Games are held Thursdays at 3 p.m. in the main lobby area near the bistro and lounge.
