Meet the Acts Board Marvin Mashner Marvin Mashner is the former President and Chief Executive Officer of Acts Retirement- Life Communities, Inc., having retired in 2014. He joined Acts in 1990 and has more than 45 years of progressive financial and managerial experience in both proprietary and not- for-profit health care organizations. Before joining Acts, Marvin served as chief executive officer of an acute care hospital and had held numerous financial management positions for an organization that owned and managed 40 hospitals nationwide. In addition to serving on the Boards of Acts and several of its affiliates, Marvin serves as chair of the Acts Legacy Foundation. He recently completed several terms on the Board of Directors of LeadingAge, our industry trade association. He continues to serve on the board of CARF, an international accrediting agency; as well as on the board of Thomas Jefferson University health system, where he serves as Chair of the Audit, Compliance and Risk committee. Marvin has been a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging and has served on various state and national health care boards and committees, as well as community and social service organizations. Marvin is a CPA and holds Bachelor of Science and MBA degrees from the Pennsylvania State University, where he was named an Alumni Fellow. He has also received numerous awards in recognition of his service to the health care industry. Why did you decide to serve on the Acts board? Having been committed to Acts’ mission and purpose for the previous 24 years, I was honored when I was asked to continue that commitment by serving as a member of the board. In addition, I felt that my exposure and involvement with many industry issues through my service on other boards would allow me to offer such knowledge for the benefit of Acts and its residents. And, I must admit that having previously served as CEO of the organization, I have a vested interest in its continued success as it honors its responsibility to those whom we serve, in fulfillment of the Lord’s instructions to care for the elderly, as specified in the Scriptures. Larry Marr Larry Marr is one of the newest members to join the Acts Board. He served on the Elder Board at Grace Community Church, in Kailua Kona, HI, and on the school boards where his son attended in Hawaii and Pennsylvania. Larry had a 17-year career in the hotel industry with Hilton and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts in Washington State and Hawaii. He founded a human resources and payroll outsourcing company (HRBenefix) in 2010, and opened an office in Souderton, PA, where he and his family relocated in 2012. Larry holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and is a veteran of the United States Air Force. Why did you decide to serve on the Acts board? Acts Board member Bruce Detweiler is a mentor both professionally and spiritually, as well as a very dear friend of mine. He and I had many conversations about how God calls people to serve in their communities. In 2016, our son Pierce graduated from Plumstead Christian School and my term on the school board ended in 2018. When Bruce asked me to consider board service on the Acts Board, I took the time to pray over the decision and spoke at length with my wife. In this season of our lives, the opportunity to serve was both an honor and a privilege. 2
