                I Want to Write
By Kathryn Pettus Bayleigh Chase
I want to write about our times distill living in Spring 2020 into a few good words
I fancy a few haunting images groceries left on the porch
a quarantine sign on the door
I wish to write movingly about isolation, loss, steadfastness tenderly extract mood and emotion without being mawkish or maddening
I opt not to dwell on fear
or underscore anger or outrage
I prefer to catch the warmth of care the importance of concern
I prefer to write poetry about people as well as events describe faces that defy disruption eyes that see the inconceivable
I want to capture what
I could never have imagined preserve and interpret the story of our times
it will require effort
I want to write
