Coxson III and Maxine HamiltonBOCA RATON, FL — ACTS Retirement-Life Communities topped the list of 370 of Florida’s finest senior living organizations when its members won the most highly acclaimed awards presented by the Florida Association of Non-Profit Homes and Services for the Aging (FAHSA) at their recent convention at the Boca Raton Resort and Club.
Award recipients included Charles W. Coxson, III, Regional Vice President of Operations for ACTS’ six Florida communities, who received the prestigious Chair Award. Coxson is a long-time FAHSA Board member and serves on the FLICRA/FAHSA Continuing Care Task Force, where he helped to spearhead revisions to Chapter 651 which governs the operations of CCRCs in Florida in 2010 that is now law. Coxson has been touted as one of the single greatest contributors to the cause of elder affairs and resident relations by his innovative leadership in education, public policy and regulatory efforts.
Honored as FAHSA Volunteer of the Year, Margaret Westervelt, is a 15-year ACTS/St. Andrews Estates South resident who has given over 19,000 hours of service to Debbie Rand Thrift Store, and continues to work three days a week. Westervelt also serves on the board of directors of Lynn University Friends of the Conservatory of Music and the Caring Hearts Auxiliary of Florida Atlantic University’s Lewis and Ann Green Memory and Wellness Center in Boca.
Coral Springs resident Maxine Hamilton, a licensed practical nurse at WillowBrooke Court at St. Andrews Estates North, won Caregiver of the Year from FAHSA. Hamilton has worked at the retirement community since 2008.
At a separate ceremony, Hamilton also received the ACTS President’s Award, presented to only four employees each year from a workforce of 6,000. The President’s Award recognizes excellence in service to residents, concern and support for fellow employees, attitude and work performance. Hamilton’s nomination included 27 different testimonials from residents, staff and management. She was presented with an extra week’s vacation, an engraved crystal bowl and a travel voucher.
