About Heron Point of Chestertown

Location

An aerial view of Heron Point.A 66-acre tidewater treasure, Heron Point hugs the unspoiled shoreline of the Chester River, a tributary to the Chesapeake Bay, on Maryland's Eastern Shore. One of the most historic and lovely small towns in America, Chestertown has been ranked as one of the top five most attractive small towns for retirement. Home to Washington College and noted as the cultural magnet for the region, this location offers the best of today in perfect harmony with a rich colonial past. Residents enjoy being involved in the town and are able to walk or bike to town and the college.

Residents enjoy living accommodations that include 91 cottages and 101 apartment homes. We have an 800-foot boardwalk and two miles of walking paths in a garden-like setting. In addition, assisted living and skilled nursing care is available on-site for residents' future needs.

Secure, nationally recognized and accredited

Heron Point proudly offers residents a variety of contract options that assure residents of physical and financial security throughout their retirement years.

Furthermore, Heron Point is accredited by the CARF-Continuing Care Accreditation Commission. CARF-CCAC accreditation is the highest recognition a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) can attain.

Seemingly impossible contrasts makes Heron Point so unique

Quiet, yet vibrant

Ours is a quiet, small-town setting. Yet, Chestertown boasts a farmer's market of locally grown produce and regional arts and crafts every Saturday for nine months of the year. We have weekend festivals that draw hundreds, even thousands of visitors from miles around. A tall ship, the Sultana, makes its home at the downtown pier and is available for tours and sailing. Boating is a mainstay of local activity.

No traffic, but easily accessible

We are protected from suburban sprawl by the Chesapeake Bay and our location on the Delmarva Peninsula; we simply don't have traffic congestion. Our area is home to wildlife refuges as well as colonial-era homes. At the same time, we benefit from ready access to major highways and airports. Both Atlantic beaches and Chesapeake activities are nearby.

Rural and sophisticated

Farming is a big local business, but we are also home to Washington College, a small, thriving liberal arts institution that lends an air of sophistication and accomplishment to the community.

Culture

Artists and artistic endeavors are at home in Chestertown as demonstrated by numerous art shows and art dealers. Musical events include exceptional summer outdoor concerts, an organ concert series, and an outstanding chamber music series. Live theater can be found in a nearby community.

Quality continuing care

Heron Point, of course, offers what would be expected from any first-rate continuing care community. We are fully accredited and provide all the benefits, care, and services that that implies.

Something special

All of this comes without isolation. Our campus is part of Chestertown; we are within walking distance of both the college and the historic downtown.

We know we have something special here, and we believe you will think so, too.
